Giving our customer the ability to change style and feeling of their furniture is one thing. Keeping one’s favorite armchair hygienic and fresh is another. But one more important reason why it should be easy for our customers to remove the upholstery on our furniture is to provide the conditions for a long lifespan.

This is not only fantastic from an economic perspective, but foremost from an ecological perspective.

The project “Business model innovation for circular furniture flows” describes how comparisons have been made between newly produced furniture and renovated, or so-called remade furniture. It turns out that by taking care of and renovating old furniture, instead of buying new ones, the climate impact is reduced by as much as 20-40%, depending on the type of furniture!

The project shows that the most significant environmental and climate impacts are related to raw materials. At NC we strive to make it easy for our customers to use their furniture for as long as possible and increase the possibility to renovate, which decrease the need for raw materials.

Wooden furniture has a relatively low climate impact from the beginning compared to metal furniture. In addition, if we make sure to extend the lifespan with as simple tricks as removable upholstery, we can reduce the environmental impact even more.
