Renewable instead of petroleum-based

Playful, toxic free and functional. Inviting, including and innovative. The “Du & jag” (You & I) sofa is special in many ways. The designers Eva-Johanna Isestig and Jenny Fingal have really been taking the perspective of children and youth in to their design process to create a product that include and look to their needs.

An important part of ensuring children’s needs and well-being is the choice of material. At NC we aim to label all our products with Möbelfakta and use water-based pain as standard. This is a first step to minimize harmful substances. When it comes to the sofa “Du & jag” we have taken a step further by using renewable padding materials – both in seating cushions and pillows – free from plastics and harmful chemicals.

Coir fiber (Coconut fiber)

Coir fiber origin from the hairy shell of the coconut and is in many times considered as “waste” by manufacturers of other coconut products. The fiber threads are worn off from the shell and joined by various techniques depending on the end product. The Coir fiber that we use is rubberized which means that it is coated with natural latex for better comfort and texture. Rubberized Coir fiber provides good ventilation and is naturally cooling in seating and mattresses.

Natural latex

Natural latex is made from the sap extracted from the rubber tree while ordinary latex is petroleum-based. The advantage with natural latex is that is do not emit harmful chemicals which a petroleum-based latex can release as they age. Natural latex is also cooling which ordinary latex does not have without the addition of chemical ingredients.
